The last day in Bath

This morning we had to pack our suitcases, check out from our flat, and come up to the University one last time. It is with mixed feelings that we have to say goodbye today. We are looking forward to our visit to Oxford for two evenings, and the full day visit at the Oxford Libraries tomorrow, but we are also very sad to leave Bath. This afternoon we will have to say goodbye to colleagues on this side who has put in a lot of effort in scheduling meetings for us, being very kind and friendly all the way. Thank you specifically to Kara Jones, who acted somewhat as our host. She drove us around when we had to visit other campuses, she scheduled and rescheduled all our meetings, and so many other things to make us feel at home. Thank you Kara, we really appreciated your time and kindness .

Yesterday we sat in on "Research Data drop-in sessions" which Cathy Pink handled in the Postgraduate Commons area (elsewhere on campus). They moved these sessions to the Postgraduate Commons recently and it was very popular. During the two hours we attended, about 5 or more postgraduate students (mostly PhD's) "dropped in" and could get answers on their questions and some guidance on Research Data Management planning. They now realise that it is better to go where the students are and to not have these sessions in the Library itself.

Yesterday afternoon we attended the "Engage: Public Engagement in Practice" meeting. It was very interesting to see how researchers share and showcase their engagement activities on their research in only 6 minutes. The Public Engagement Unit organised the event. They also had a poster competition where researchers share their public engagement endeavors via a poster. We could unfortunately not stay for the full event to see who won the competition of both the talks and the posters, we had another meeting to attend.

We also visited the Learning Commons in town this morning. This is a facility for students who would like to make use of computers and study spaces in town. They also have a book drop there for returning library books. See below a few pictures on this space (they also have cafe...)

We will give more in-depth feedback when we are back at work about all aspects of the visit.

See you soon!
